Nazmul resigns as BCB president, Faruque elected new president

Sports Desk:

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan resigned on Wednesday and was replaced by former national team captain Faruque Ahmed in a meeting of the Board of Directors at the secretariat.

Confirming the news, BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told New Age that Faruque was first elected as a director in the vacant position of Jalal Yunus before he was elected as the new president.

Faruque took over the charge immediately, he said.

The National Sports Council withdrew its nominee, Ahmed Sazzadul Alam, who was replaced by Nazmul Abedin Fahim.

Nazmul, who was also the sports minister in the cabinet of recently ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, was appointed as the BCB president in 2012.

He was elected as the BCB president for three consecutive terms, with his latest term scheduled to end in October 2025.

The new president, Faruque, briefly captained Bangladesh in the 1994 ICC Trophy in Kenya.

He played seven one-day internationals for the country, scoring 105 runs at 15.00 before retiring from the national cricket team after the 1999 World Cup.

He also held the position of national chief selector for two terms.
